Mystery of Lilly E. Gray from Salt Lake City - "Victim of the Beast 666"

The legend, a synopsis: In the Salt Lake City Cemetery, there is a gravestone for a woman named Lilly E. Gray with an inscription that reads, "VICTIM OF THE BEAST 666." Many people have attempted to research this stone and Lilly, but strangely always hit a brick wall, as there is no information aside from her obituary, which states only that she died in a local hospital from natural causes.

Within the sublime Salt Lake City Cemetery, there is indeed a gravestone which has aroused interest and curiosity over the years, and has recently, with the advent of the internet, become the object of intrigue and fascination, amateur and oftentimes apathetic sleuthery. The stone is modest- a small, flat marker; the inscription is anything but: "VICTIM OF THE BEAST 666"

Cemetery legends abound. These stories, more often than not, especially when pertaining to specific gravestones and their inhabitants, tend to take on the attributes of the urban legend, mirroring societal fears, horror, and capitalizing on mystery; they usually have an associated thread of religious intrigue, including 'devil worship'. The legends also tend to arise from the most benign origins.

Part of the fascination with the Lilly E. Gray mystery could be due to its "legend in reverse" quality. The impetus is its blatant-ness, its in-your-face refence to satan, then an unravelling reveals "nothing". The strange lack of any story associated with Lily Gray's gravestone is its biggest mystery and also the not very festive centerpiece its own developing, unique legend. The stone's astonishing, provocative inscription begs for interpretation and meaning; where are all the suppositions? They are few, certainly. There are a couple websites that allude to the use of stone's image within a report by investigators of satanic ritual abuse hysteria. There are a few jokes in a thread about Lilly's husband perhaps being the 'beast.'

Salt Lake City is home of the massive LDS-operated Family History Library, and the world's geneaological research mecca--since the stone's erection in 1958 no one has dug deeply enough to uncover even a minimal account of Lily Gray's life and the origins of the inscription? When confronted with apparent true lunacy, evil, religious ferver, abuse, or implausible as it may be, ultimate victimhood at the hands of satan (as the stone literally implies) do we collectively turn our heads?

Tales of horrifying bogeymen like Rawhead and Bloody Bones.

(Image: Geoffrey Fantomo via Monster Wikia)

For as long as children have been misbehaving, adults have been telling them terrifying stories in a bid to make them tow the line – lest they be stolen away in the night, never to be seen again. To that end, children in 16th century Ireland and Great Britain were told tales of horrifying bogeymen like Rawhead and Bloody Bones.

The first written evidence of the gruesome duo dates to around 1564, but other documents from the same period seem to suggest that they were already familiar figures – making it difficult to tell for sure when the pair first began haunting children’s nightmares.

Jonathan Derby - rawhead rex

The Mask of Reason blog examined the original stories which featured a creature known as Tommy Rawhead, most often referred simply as Rawhead or even Rawhead and Bloody Bones, despite apparently describing a single bogeyman. The name was a literal label, since he was sporting a raw and bloody skull. Some interpretations of the tale have Rawhead living in ponds. Ponds were potentially dangerous places, and his presence was implied as a cautionary tale to keep curious children from wandering off and drowning.

In other folk stories, Rawhead lived in disused cupboards, while one claimed that says that if children stood on the stairs and gazed down between their ankles, through the gaps in the steps, they might catch a glimpse of Rawhead, crouched on a pile of bones in his home beneath the stairs. Should the children be caught, he’d gobble them up and add their bones to the pile.

No doubt such parental stories had the desired effect, and Rawhead’s nursery rhyme was a popular one:

Rawhead and Bloody Bones
Steals naughty children from their homes,
Takes them to his dirty den,
And they are never seen again.

Folk stories of Rawhead eventually migrated to North America, where they took on an even darker meaning. There, particularly in Missouri (and further south), Rawhead became the familiar of a witch named Old Betty, manifesting in the form of a half-wild boar.

The mystery of the famous '' Alien '' Atacama continues in 2018

Researchers have made a breakthrough in the mysterious Atacama desert in Chile in 2003

Ata is the common name given to the 6-inch (150 mm)-long skeletal remains of a human that were found during 2003 in a deserted Chilean town in the Atacama Desert, hence the abbreviated name. The remains have been placed in a private collection in Spain.

According to a local Chilean newspaper, La Estrella de Arica (es), Ata was found in northern Chile by Oscar Muñoz, who later sold the remains; their current owner is Ramón Navia-Osorio, a Spanish businessman.

Experts have discovered a small skeleton that looked like that of a human, except for some features that have made the researchers think. After the image appeared on the Internet, many people said it could be an alien. But experts have conducted tests to discover the identity of abnormal skeleton, nicknamed Ata.

The skeleton has only 15 centimeters long at first glance many said they could be the skeleton of a premature baby, others said it could be just a hoax. Ata's size is not the only thing that has amazed scientists, the skeleton show physical deformities. For example, humans have 12 ribs, but the skeleton has only 10, and head shape sharp as conferred by turicefalie. Deformation of the face and jaw gave him a look that is not earthly.

The skeleton was part of a private collection until 2009, when he was brought in a symposium in Barcelona. In autumn 2012, researchers have been offered the chance to study it on Ata x-rays and genetic samples.

The images could be seen carried lungs and heart of the individual. Preliminary studies have shown that this is matter of human origin, but 9% of material not matched the reference genome. Mitochondrial DNA study revealed that Ata's mother was originally from the same place where the skeleton was discovered.

One of the most impressive findings from the analysis was that Ata was not a fetus. It had teeth like those of a grown man, and the bones were well developed as those of a child between 6 and 8 years. How could a 6 year old to have only six centimeters?

Some of the explanations as dwarfism, progeria (premature aging) or mummification a fetus.

Is a skull, but whose? Beneath new annex school St Alcuin Montessori in north Dallas

While attending the excavations required the rise of a new annex school St Alcuin Montessori in north Dallas, USA, David Evans, an employee of an American company building, dug up last week, a skull mystery of soil that will be materialized project .

"We all know that belongs to a primate, just as we have no idea what kind is it," said Evans. The skull was found at a depth of 1.6 meters into the ground, measuring 15.24 inches in length and has a width of five centimeters. The bulk of its teeth, including canines every 2.54 cm long, they occur almost intact.

Dana Austin anthropologist from the Bureau of Medical Examination Tarrant, who analyzed the skull only from photographs, said that it certainly belongs to "an old world primates", possibly a monkey or a chimpanzee. Also Evans, who has consulted and other experts, believes that it could be the skull of a baboon. The dating was not done yet.

David Evans and colleagues also found near the skull and a small bone, apparently coming from the same animal, possibly as part of a femur or hip. The worker plans to sell the skull that will provide a good amount, but agree the possibility of keeping it as a natural curiosity.

Sea monster long by 9 meters was discovered on a beach in New Zealand

Rotting corpse of a "sea monster" mysteriously found on a beach in New Zealand.

A video clip shows conducted by Elizabeth Ann creature skull half buried by sand on the beach Pukehina. Apparently the creature's bones over 9 meters long reached shore after a storm last month.

The discovery triggered a series of discussions among local residents regarding the origin of the creature. They suggested that it could be a big crocodile, dolphin or dinosaur.

However, Anton van Helden, a specialist in the study of marine mammals, rejected all these hypotheses explaining the structure of the animal's fins is similar to killer whales, common near the island of Fiji and the Bay of Plenty. Currently, scientists are nevertheless carried out a series of tests to determine exactly what the animal is.
